UETA

The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) is a model law, first published in 1999, that establishes the legal validity of electronic signatures and records at the state level. Nearly every U.S. state has adopted it, which is why electronic signing is standard practice almost everywhere in the country.

UETA and the federal ESIGN Act cover much of the same ground. The practical takeaway is the same under both: if a person intends to sign and there is a reliable record of that intent, an electronic signature is enforceable.
